Intravenous Therapy (IV) is a therapy that delivers a beneficial substance directly into the bloodstream, through a needle in the vein. Also known as a drip, this form of therapy is being used increasingly by individuals seeking to optimize their health. Common drips include vitamin C, vitamin B12, vitamin D, magnesium, glutathione, biotin, zinc, and electrolytes.
Intravenous therapy was historically used by hospitals, for cases like severe dehydration, transfusions, and other life-or-death scenarios. Today, people are incorporating them electively into their lives to help with a multitude of wellness goals, including recovering from jet lag or a hangover, to stay youthful, or to help fight inflammation. ‘Drip bars’ where these IV solutions can be purchased off a menu are popping up all over the country, and they are becoming increasingly available at healthcare practitioner offices as well.
Stem cell therapy is a regenerative therapy that uses exogenous stem cell injections to treat or prevent a disease or condition. Stem cells are a nonspecific type of cell that can develop into any cell the body may need– they are essentially the body’s raw material. Although they are produced naturally, this therapy floods the body with an abundance of stem cells so that it can regenerate at a more rapid rate.
Stem cells can be collected from three main sources: embryonic cells (from embryo’s that are 3-5 days old), from adult stem cells (found in most tissues, like bone marrow or fat), and from perinatal stem cells (amniotic fluid, and umbilical cord blood). Once the stem cells are harvested,
Stem cell therapy is being used to help restore the body after cell damage from chemotherapy, as a way to boost the immune system to fight certain cancers and blood-related diseases like lymphoma, leukemia, and neuroblastoma. It is also being used to treat other conditions including degenerative disease like heart failure, as well as injuries (both traumatic, and due to long term wear and tear).
Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on treating mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system, especially as it related to the spine. Chiropractic doctors are trained to perform manual adjustment techniques to address misalignments that may be at the root of various health problems. Approximately 22 million Americans visit a chiropractic clinic every year. The number one reason people pursue chiropractic care is to heal back pain, but other reasons include muscle strains, sports injuries, accidents, and various pains in the neck, arms, and legs.
Detoxification is something that your body does naturally all day, every day– like cars that emit fumes as a byproduct of running the engine, our cells emit waste simply by generating energy for you to live. Our cells are equipped to deal with this natural function, but in today’s modern world, an added detox support can be useful to combat the assault our bodies are experiencing from an overload of toxins.
These toxins range from the chemicals that have infiltrated our food supply (herbicides, pesticides, and highly processed foods), to the chemicals we put on our bodies (phthalates, parabens, mineral oil, oxybenzone, triclosan), to the chemicals in our water (led, copper, pharmaceutical run-off), to the pharmaceuticals themselves (antibiotics, birth control, antidepressants). They also include more insidious heavy metal toxicity (like exposure to lead paint or mercury in amalgam fillings), bacterial infection (like Lyme’s disease), or mold exposure.
Detoxification led by a qualified practitioner can vary in the protocol and will depend on the specific source of the toxins. Depending on the degree of your toxicity, the body can undergo a severe herxheimer reaction (whereby the body feels worse before it feels better), and a practitioner can help minimize the risk of this reaction by tailoring a detoxification protocol to your individual needs and strength.
Acupuncture is an ancient modality of healing that uses very thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body, with the intention of relieving pain and/or to treat various conditions. Acupuncture is a tenet of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used by East Asian peoples to restore and maintain good health for thousands of years.
The practice is rooted in ancient principles of Qi (pronounced chee), which is a word TCM uses to explain the concept of life force energy. By using needles to stimulate energy centers of the body along channels called meridians, acupuncture aim to reinstate energy flow through the body and balance the Qi.
Acupuncture has been used effectively to treat symptoms of pain and discomforts from varying sources, including dental pain, labor pain, osteoarthritis, neck pain, menstrual cramps, headaches, nausea. It is also used to address many ailments such as infertility, stress, respiratory disorders, dysmenorrhea, and digestive disorders.
Fasting is one of the most ancient healing modalities and involves the abstinence of all food for an extended period of time. Although fasting has been used in religions across the globe for a very long time, science is finally catching up to the benefits of this ancient wisdom.
There are multiple ways to fast, including whey water fasting, bone broth fasting, intermittent fasting, and prolonged water fasting. Studies support the many benefits of fasting including blood sugar control, reduced inflammation, supported brain function, prevention of neurodegenerative disease, weight loss, enhanced heart health, and more.
One of the main mechanisms that we benefit from while fasting is a process called autophagy. Autophagy occurs when the body goes into ‘starvation mode’ and begins to self-destruct it’s damaged or redundant cells for fuel. The body is then flooded with an abundance of new stem cells to replace the lost cells, which provides us with the building blocks of vibrant health.
Although the concept is simple enough, many people are dealing with complicated or unknown underlying health issues and are advised to fast alongside a qualified practitioner.
A healthy body is naturally maintaining a healthy weight, and so although weight loss is a viable goal– it should be achieved as a byproduct of living a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle includes maintaining a healthy body through a nutritious and unprocessed diet, and daily movement, but also addresses mental health.
When pursued as a goal in of itself, many people try incorporating extreme diets and dangerous tactics to produce drastic and quick results… but studies show that those who lose weight gradually (1 to 2 pounds per week) are generally more successful at keeping the weight off.
Working with a healthcare practitioner then can help you address any underlying infections and diseases, as well as a multi-therapeutic approach to weight loss can help keep you supported and accountable to your weight loss goals.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a treatment that involves breathing nearly 100 percent oxygen in a pressurized room or enclosure. The body’s ability to heal is enhanced dramatically by introducing more oxygen into the bloodstream. Since the body needs oxygen to work, the concept is that additional oxygen can help the body heal– and indeed, the science backs it up.
The first hyperbaric oxygen chamber dates back to the early 1660s, and since the 1940s HBOT has become a standard treatment in the US military. More recently, hyperbaric oxygen treatment has swept the alternative health scene and has been FDA approved for treating various conditions, including thermal burns, necrotizing soft tissue infections, skin grafts, and radiation injury. Although it hasn’t been approved for the following conditions, people are still using HBOT to treat conditions including infertility, Alzheimer’s disease, sports injury, brain injury, and spinal cord injury.
Unlike supplements that you can pick up in any health food aisle at the store, physician grade supplements are sold exclusively through qualified healthcare practitioners. This is important because the supplement industry is notoriously unreliable, and studies show that the majority of supplements on the shelves of American stores contain little to none of the listed ingredients. The vitamin and supplement industry is highly unregulated, and so opting to buy from physician approved brands ensures your money is being invested in high-quality products.
The second problem with supplements is the self-medicating going on. Although a supplement is natural, doesn’t mean everyone should be taking it. Botanicals have potent effects on the body and giving it too much of something it doesn’t need can be toxic to the body. Following a protocol with your healthcare provider can reduce the risk of harming yourself with supplements.
Physician grade supplements are made by companies who are vested in science and research, not simply selling whatever supplement is popular at the moment. These products are made with the intention of being used therapeutically by practitioners to work with their patients, which keeps the companies accountable for producing high quality, effective products.
NIS (Neuro-Integration Systems) is a neurologically based system-based on our own innate intelligence. The nervous system is in control of the function of every cell in the body on an ongoing basis. We know now from modern brain science how complex the nervous system is. NIS allows us to tap into and get this information through motor sensory loops.
Motor-sensory loops: The nervous system sends signals from the brain to the body (muscles, cells, organs, tendons, glands, ligaments). The body immediately sends sensory feedback to the brain. The sensory feedback modulates the motor outputs. This happens millions of times per second. Sometimes those motor sensory loops can break down, due to stressors such as physical trauma, emotions, chemical stressors, toxicity, and diet. This can overload the system.
With NIS we can access information about our motor sensory loops through neurological muscle testing. Any points that are disrupted, will cause a loss of muscle control, which is feedback as to what is going on in the body.
Integration is a simple tap on the sensory receiving-dispatching center of the brain. This does not force the brain to do anything, but rather points the brain in the direction of the sensory breakdown, which triggers a cascade of neurological events. This restores the neurological functions in the broken down sensory loops and restores health.
